PreK-6th Grade Music, Dance, and Professional Development Program

Our Music and Creative Dance Education Programs draw inspiration from the philosophy of Orff Schulwerk, the science of Gordon Music Learning Theory and the Elements of Dance (Body, Action, Space, Time and Energy).

Our learner centered, progressive program provides opportunities for students to explore, compose, improvise, and create within a wide range of styles and genres that celebrate diversity and inclusion. BAF educators are trained in curriculum modifications that make learning accessible and engaging for all students, regardless of their physical and cognitive abilities. Our Music and Movement Classes, typically 30 – 45 minutes per week, focus on the sequential development of musical skills.

Our program includes Jazz, Classical, Folk from around the world, West African, Brazilian, Mexican, Mariachi, Peruvian, American, Cuban, Caribbean and more. We will introduce students to as many musical genres as possible to expose their bodies and minds to new sounds, beats, rhythms, languages, and modes of expression. In addition to voice, we use instruments (varies by grade level) like drums, recorders, ukuleles, rhythm sticks, shakers, and bells.

Both our Music and Dance classes meet or exceed the California Arts Standards for Music and Dance. All classes follow our student growth framework: agency (working confidently solo and in groups), competency (expressing skills at level) and creativity (creating original work).

Futures in Tune is the latest initiative from the Bloom Arts Foundation. Launched in partnership with Transcenders Music Academy, the program is currently connecting students in Los Angeles (California), Mumbai (India), and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) through music. The program takes music classes to the next level by providing the first-ever high-quality collaborative cross-cultural arts education program for students in different school sites around the world.

Our mission with FIT is to promote curiosity and community across cultures using music and to uplift our students – not necessarily to create professional musicians. Building genuine connection across cultures, especially among children, is needed now more than ever as it promotes the development of self-awareness and empathy. FIT believes that music is one of the most effective cross-cultural connectors that exists.

The goal of FIT is to collaborate with additional schools and youth organizations around the world to integrate high-quality sequential arts education curriculum into their day, removing access and cost barriers. Futures in Tune hires local music educators and provides ongoing professional development resources to sustain and inspire infinite future programming initiatives. The program also provides instruments and materials to the partner school sites.

Interactive
Assemblies

Interactive Assemblies bring the joy of music and movement from around the world to children of all ages! Our assemblies are unique because everyone gets to participate! All students sing and move to the music, and in many assemblies student volunteers are chosen from the audience to demonstrate or play instruments. Our interactive assemblies encourage students to be active listeners, follow along in call and response, and engage with the history, music, dance and customs of another culture.

Our Interactive Cultural Assemblies have been carefully designed to help students build community, celebrate diversity, raise cultural awareness, confidence, collaboration, and self-expression– all while enjoying being in a live audience!
